Certification in Nonprofit Management and Leadership

Successful nonprofit organizations require leaders and managers with a wide range of knowledge and skills. UTSA’s Nonprofit Management Program provides training and leadership tools for nonprofit professionals at all levels of their careers and at all levels of responsibility – entry-level, new leaders, board members, or volunteers.

Participants earn continuing education units (CEUs) toward a Certification in Nonprofit Management and Leadership upon completion of the both the Summer Institute on Leadership and Stewardship (SILS) and the Nonprofit Management Program (NMP). This credential, and the coursework leading to it, greatly enhances participants’ marketability in the nonprofit sector.

Summer Institute for Leadership and Stewardship (SILS)

Held in August, the two-day Summer Institute provides an overview of the nonprofit sector and explores current trends in the field as well as the unique dimensions of nonprofit leadership.The informal sessions promote thoughtful dialogue and encourage connections to be made among participants.   Experts in the field present topics such as an overview of the nonprofit sector, models of leadership, the importance of mission, trends in philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. Nonprofit Management Program (NMP)

Participants meet from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. once a month from September through April for seven sessions. These interactive modules focus on developing the core competencies that nonprofit leaders should have such as fundraising, grant writing, volunteer management, program evaluation, strategic planning and much more.
