Nanaz Wins NASW Award
Ms. Angelica Nanez, a student in the master of social work program was selected the National Association of Social Workers San Antonio Unit’s Student Social Worker of the Year. Angelica graduated from Baylor after going to San Antonio College with an undergraduate degree in forensic science. She worked as a tutor with at-risk children in an elementary school and then at Boysville. Those experiences shaped her decision to pursue a degree in social work. While at UTSA, she has served as the Vice President and then President of the social work student organization, named to Who's Who in Colleges and Universities and has been an outstanding student.
She completed her first practicum with Congressman Ciro Rodriguez's office and is now completing her final internship at the ROSE Program for pregnant and parenting teens at Southwest High School. She has helped organize student participation in NASW events, volunteered at the Texas State NASW conference, organized students to participate in the Blue Santa Parade in December, is currently leading a drive in the Social Work Department to collect items for refugees living in San Antonio. She is especially interested in helping at-risk youth figure out ways to attend college and be successful there.
