Office of Diversity Initiatives
Values :The combination of excellence and inclusiveness strengthens institutional capacities for research and training.
Mission : The College of Sciences Office of Diversity Initiatives will promote the inclusion of underrepresented groups and women in COS academic units. The goal of the Office of Diversity Initiatives is to promote the development of faculty and graduate student demographics that more closely parallel those of the undergraduate population.
Vision : The Office will seek to establish the College of Sciences as a national leader and resource for addressing diversity opportunities. The COS will promote the expansion of the pipeline of URM students who proceed to advanced degrees in sciences and mathematics by partnering with local, regional and national educational leaders and institutions. The COS will achieve national prominence as the origin institution of underrepresented minority science and mathematics doctorates within 10 years, with special focus on serving the Hispanic and African American communities in Texas. The COS seeks to achieve these objectives while affording an exceptional and welcoming environment for all members of the academic community.
