2008 - 2009 2nd Quarter Recipient

Business Affairs is proud to recognize Lisa Bixenman, Accounting Technician, Disbursements and Travel Services Department, as a 2nd quarter recipient of the Celebrating Excellence Award for FY 2009.

Lisa has always been concerned about paying students on time and has gone beyond the call of duty to make this happen. Lisa initiated a business process improvement that automated the scholarship stipend payment process. The old process was manually intensive, took up to three weeks to issue a check, required monthly vouchers to be initiated, required documents/back-up to be duplicated for each voucher and required manual signature approval as well as electronic approvals.

Lisa was the project lead and spent countless hours working with the Assistant VP for Financial Affairs, Assistant Director, Director, IT, Payroll, Office of Sponsored Projects and the Scholarship Office. The process created efficiencies that 1) allowed students to receive their stipend payment normally within 6 business days of the department approving; 2) reduce central processing time; 3) save departmental creators time and money; 4) reduce data entry errors; and 5) overall provide cost savings to the University from a time and effort perspective.

Lisa exemplifies the qualities of this program through her initiative, strong communication and teamwork skills and her creativity in developing the new process and training material for the new automated scholarship stipend payment process.
