2008 - 2009 3rd Quarter Recipients

Rowdy New-U

Business Affairs is proud to recognize Thomas Murph, Nancy Woodward and Gina English, Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management, as the 3rd quarter recipients of the Celebrating Excellence Award for FY 2009.

The Rowdy New-U Pilot Wellness Program brings positive change to UTSA. The pilot program is expected to lead to an ongoing wellness program for all UTSA faculty and staff. Working with a small budget, Gina, Thomas and Nancy used creative ways to stretch the available funding to provide a 6-month program for 225 participants. Innovation, creativity and communication were signature attributes of the Rowdy New-U Pilot Wellness program from its inception. Its name and logo tell you something about the program. The team knew that communication would be key to everything from determining what to include in the program (individual and group activities, exercise classes, nutrition classes, walking trails, etc.) to encouraging attendance and participation. The communication has been outstanding.

Gina, Thomas and Nancy also brought tremendous ENERGY to the pilot project. The kickoff event alone was quite an achievement.

The criteria for the Celebrating Excellence Award are to demonstrate excellence in Creativity, Promoting Change and Communication.

Creativity in coming up with an awesome wellness plan with a great calendar of events. The logo and program name, the kick-off event, the quality of the communication pieces all reflect the significant creativity that made this pilot project successful.

Communication in using a variety of methods to get the word out about the program and to maintain interest in the program.

Promoting Change, an awesome plan which is dedicated to establishing a work environment that promotes healthy lifestyles, reduces the risk of disease, and enhances the quality of life.

Gina, Thomas, and Nancy's work on the Rowdy New-U Pilot Wellness Program is a demonstration of excellence.
