Child Protection Training

Child Protection Training requires all who work/volunteer* in campus programs involving contact with minors complete Child Protection Training. This training was enacted in September 2011, with a compliance date of June 1, 2012. This training must be completed within the first five (5) days of employment (with the program) and Program Operators/Directors/Coordinators must submit a verification form to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) within five (5) days of the start of the program verifying that each employee/volunteer* of the campus program has complied with the training requirement.

* UTSA expanded the training requirement to include those in unpaid positions (e.g., volunteers)

 

Who needs to take Child Protection Training

Child Protection Training will only be required for anyone (faculty, staff, volunteer or student worker) having contact with a minor as part of a camp or program under the following scenarios:
·         Camp or Program with minors lasts 6 hours or more on any given day,

·         Camp or Program with minors continues for multiple days no matter what the duration is per day, and/or

·         Camp or program requires an overnight stay.


In addition, any volunteer acting as a guest speaker, entertainer or a person who visits for a limited purpose or limited time if the person has no direct and unsupervised interaction with minors does not have to take this training.

 

Responsibilities

Program Operator/Director/Coordinator

  • Determine who within your program needs to take the training
  • Notify those who need to take the training
  • Ensure the training is complete by receiving completion certificate from the employee/volunteer
  • Retain all certificates of those who have completed the training
  • Complete the Campus Program for Minors verification form
  • The Bexar County ID is 48029. County ID #s can be found on the Department of State Health Services website: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/chs/info/info_txco.shtm
  • Submit the form to the Department of State Health Services

 

UTSA Employee

  • Go to MyTraining: https://mytraining.utsa.edu/online/
  • Log in with your myUTSA ID and Passphrase (Important: You must be an active employee in the HR System to log in).
  • Click the course RG0101 – Child Protection Training
  • Self-enroll in the course.
  • Review the lesson, pass the quiz with a 70 or higher, and print your completion certificate to turn it in to your Program Operator/Director/Coordinator.
  • View the Login Tutorial if you need assisstance

 

UTSA Volunteer

  • Non-UTSA Employees/Volunteers/Visiting Researchers/Visiting Students visit go to: https://mytraining.affiliated.utsa.edu/
  • To be used by those involved in UTSA programs ONLY.
  • Create an account and the system will send an email for you to confirm (If you do not receive it within 2-3 minutes, check your spam or junk folders).
  • After confirming, click the Child Protection Training link on the homepage and self-enroll yourself in the course.
  • Review the lesson, pass the quiz with a 70 or higher, and print your completion certificate to turn it in to your Program Operator/Director/Coordinator.
  • Note: The Training History for UTSA employees completing the training on the Affiliate (non-employee) site will NOT reflect the completion.  The Training History will ONLY reflect course completion if the course is completed on the employee site (mytraining).

The Campus Program for Minors verification form must be submitted to the Department of State Health Services by each program operator within 5 days of the programs start date. It is important that ALL people involved in programs involving minors complete the training and print their certificate when complete. The certificate should go to the assigned program representative.
