Welcome to MSEIP at UTSA!

Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (MSEIP at UTSA), funded by the U.S. Department of Education (Grant Award No. P120A150110), was a three-year project (October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2018) designed to provide:

  • Research training, field trip, and internship experiences for minority students.
  • Science mentoring at public schools by participating students to keep them excited about their science and engineering and to help attract K-12 students to careers in the science and engineering.
  • Annual colloquiums, during which students will present their research and compete for awards.
  • Student presentations at local, national, and international conferences.
  • Week-long K-12 educator workshops in Earth Science and Environmental Science/Engineering
  • Improvements of research and teaching laboratories.

The outcome objectives of this project included:

  • 45 underserved students directly supported in 3 years.
  • 60 K-12 science teachers benefited from the week-long workshops and will be the direct conduits to K-12 students.
  • Hundreds of UTSA students impacted through the research program, colloquia, and improvement of teaching and research labs.
  • Thousands of middle and high school students reached in the three years through the mentoring program and K-12 science teachers trained in the workshops.
