Welcome to PACE!
PACE is a program that helps students make a successful transition to UTSA. It is comprised of Personal, Academic, and Career Exploration. The PACE population is made up of freshmen who are not sure which major to pursue, who want to use their first year to explore majors before they declare.
Benefits
Each student has a designated Advisor. PACE students work with their Advisors, in addition to Career Services, to explore possible majors and career choices, while taking required core courses. Through COR 1203, The College Success Seminar, they can also learn about the different resources available at UTSA to make their college experience as productive as possible. In addition, PACE students can learn how to modify their study skills to be successful in college.
Common myths about being undecided
MYTH:
I will look "stupid," if I don't have a declared major.
FACT: WRONG!! Evidence shows that over half of
college students change their major at least once during their
collegiate career. It is better to explore possible majors before
declaring a definite choice.
MYTH: I need to start taking classes in my major
immediately or I will be behind.
FACT: INCORRECT!! Many classes that are specific
to majors have prerequisites. Many of the prerequisites are found
within the core curriculum. Even freshmen with declared majors
initially start with the core curriculum. Therefore, you will
be taking the same courses as your declared peers!!
