Accuplacer is an approved alternate to the THEA test (formerly known as TASP). Approved alternate tests may be taken in place of the THEA test to fulfill a student’s THEA requirement.

Accuplacer is given by computer on a daily basis (Monday through Friday) in the Testing Services office (see a schedule). Eligible students, who have submitted an application to UTSA, must register for the Accuplacer online by logging on to ASAP. The multiple-choice sections of Accuplacer are not timed, however, the essay section does has a 90-minute time limit. On the average, most students take two-and-one-half to three hours to complete the exam.

Accuplacer consists of three sections: general algebra, reading and writing (sentence skills plus essay). Scores for all sections of the test are available immediately after completion of the test. Scores will also be electronically posted into the UTSA system by the next business day so that advisors may access the examinee’s scores for use at UTSA.

If students plan to attend another institution, they should not take Accuplacer with UTSA’s Testing Services Office but schedule the exam through the educational institution they have applied to.
