EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2008 ~ CLEP FEE IS $70.00
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is the most widely accepted Credit By Examination Program in the United States today, helping students of all ages earn college degrees faster by getting credit for what they already know. By receiving a satisfactory score, you can earn 3 or more college credits toward your college degree for each CLEP you take, depending on the exam subject.
The CLEP Subject and General Examinations accepted for credit by UTSA are listed in the table entitled “National Standardized Tests: Minimum Scores Required For Credit at UTSA” (listed below). UTSA is a test site for CLEP Subject and General Examinations.
National CLEP Test Administrations
The College Board has a network of centers with advanced registration required. Prospective or current UTSA students who elect to take tests in this type of administration are required to make two separate fee payments prior to testing.
Registration is on a first-come first-serve basis. You may register in person or by mail. If you choose to mail in your registration request with your two separate checks and either the 1604 Clep Guidelines or Downtown Clep Guidelines depending on where you want to take the test, you must contact Testing Services at 210-458-4125 (1604 Office) or 210-458-2941 (Downtown Office) to confirm payment was received. No reservations will be taken over the phone or by fax. If you choose to register in person, please come with a photo ID and the appropriate fees. Students who elect to take a CLEP Examination are required to make two separate fee payments prior to testing. The fee for a CLEP Examination is $70.00. (IF you are taking the Freshman Comp w/essay OR Analyzing and Interperting Lit. w/ essay Clep exam there is a $15.00 nonrefundable fee for the Essay part.) UTSA TESTING SERVICES DOES NOT accept credit card payments. However, the $70 CLEP fee can be paid directly to CLEP the day of the test by the following credit cards: American Express, VISA, MasterCard, Discover or JCB. You will be prompted to enter your credit card information before the test begins. (All fees are subject to change).

CLEP General and Subject Examinations of the College Board
The University of Texas at San Antonio grants credit to its students on the basis of four of the five CLEP General Examinations and specified CLEP Subject Examinations, which are listed in the table, “National Standardized Tests: Minimum Scores Required for Credit at UTSA” are listed below. General Examinations assess basic knowledge in the sciences and the liberal arts; the Subject Examinations measure achievement in specific academic areas. To be eligible to receive UTSA credit for the CLEP General Examinations, a student must have earned no college or university transcript credit in that subject area at the time he or she takes the examination.
Although it is not necessary to be a UTSA student to take a national CLEP test through the UTSA Testing Services office, no UTSA credit is awarded until the individual matriculates at UTSA. Individuals seeking credit from another college or university should check that institution’s credit by examination policies before registering for a national CLEP examination.
