Student Services
Student Services provides UTSA students with diverse programs and services that encourage a fun, healthy and safe environment as they develop the necessary skills to pursue lifelong career goals. From career counseling to student health services, the various programs of Student Services ensure that our students are empowered to become independent and self-reliant.
Career Services
As first-time freshmen, utilizing the services of Career Services office might not seem appropriate. However, this is the best time to initiate contact with them. All freshmen are highly encouraged to make use of this service sometime during their first year. Career-related assessment, counseling, and current job market information are available to students needing assistance in selecting a major, clarifying career goals, and confirming their current choice of major.
Career Services provides comprehensive career planning, job search, and employment-related services to students and alumni at both the 1604 and Downtown campuses. Career planning services assist individuals in exploring career options compatible with their personal goals, interests, and abilities.
Counseling Services
UTSA Counseling Services provide a confidential atmosphere where students may discuss concerns that are important in their lives. Many may be considered normal challenges that we all learn to master as we develop as a person. Some student's concerns may also involve major hurdles that interfere with their ability to manage important life experiences such as relationships, family, work or school. Counseling Services offers individual, group and couples counseling.
Services are available to all students who are currently attending class. With the exception of a few in-depth assessment tests, services are free through the student service fee. All services are confidential.
Disability Services
Disability Services (DS) coordinates support services, accommodations, and equipment for students with temporary or permanent disabilities. DS serves students with physical disabilities, chronic health impairments, vision and hearing impairments, learning disabilities, psychological disabilities, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Eligibility for Services
Students with disabilities requesting services and accommodations at UTSA must take the following steps:
Apply and be accepted for admission to UTSA through the regular admissions process.
Provide current and comprehensive documentation that includes a diagnosis of disability and describes the functional limitations the student experiences in an academic environment. Individualized Educational Plans (IEP's) and Section 504 plans, while often valuable sources of information, do not constitute acceptable documentation of disability for higher education. Documentation guidelines are available at: http://www.utsa.edu/disability/students.htm#eligserv.
Schedule an appointment with DS after being admitted to UTSA to discuss needs and register for services.

Student Health Services does just what its name implies-provides medical care to students-while trying to provide the most up-to-date medical walk-in care available an average of 1,509 students per month.
The medical staff consists of nurses, physicians, and health educators who treat an illness and/or provide preventative information. Student Health Services provides a medication self care station where students may pick up an over-the-counter remedy conveniently and quickly. Nurses are available at the 1604 and Downtown campuses on a walk-in basis to provide additional medical suggestions, listen to medical or psychological concerns or to schedule a physician appointment when appropriate.
The clinic staffs physicians from many medical disciplines. A general medical clinic, well women's clinic, orthopedic clinic and psychiatric clinic can usually meet student needs, although on occasion students are referred to local physicians. Student Health Services strives to provide optimal medical care at either no charge or a minimal fee for medications or laboratory procedures.
Student Health Services health education also provides outreach clinics for immunizations, blood drives, HIV testing and counseling and CPR/AED/First Aid training.
