apply to utsa - Special instructions
The Submission of the Application
What do I do if I am encountering technical problems completing or submitting the application or fee payment?
Consult the Help section under that Quick Links of the Apply Texas website. The Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) section is also a most helpful tool. Since this is a function of the ApplyTexas Website, UTSA is not able to assist you with this process.
Immediately After the Submission
How will I know if my application was successfully submitted?
Within two hours after submitting the application, you will receive an e-mail verification thanking you for submitting an application to the University of Texas at San Antonio. This verification will be sent from the ApplyTexas website, not from UTSA.
What if I submitted the application for the wrong term?
Once the application is submitted, it is not possible to change the term. If the term for which you are wanting to apply is not an option, either the deadline for that term has passed, or UTSA is not yet ready to begin processing applications for that term. Do NOT select a different term and plan to change that term after the application is submitted. To be considered for the term for which you want to enroll, another application and application fee will need to be submitted.
How long will it take for UTSA to receive and process my application, once it is submitted?
It can take up to two business days for the application to be received once it is submitted. Once the application is received, time needs to be allowed for loading the application into UTSA’s Student Record System. Therefore, it is important to allow AT LEAST five business days for this to be completed.
Once the application is successfully loaded into UTSA’s Student Record System, an e-mail will be sent from UTSA verifying the receipt of the application and providing you with your UTSA ID number. This process will happen electronically. For the application to be processed to determine the completeness of the application and/or an admissions decision can require up to four weeks.
What if I need to make a change on my application after I submitted it?
If you need to change your address, phone number, or other contact information, that will be done once you have received your UTSA ID number (BANNER ID). Information on how to process those changes is provided in the checking my status portion of this document.
Your major will be changed with your academic advisor during the advising/registration process.
Making the Application File Complete
How do I request an application fee waiver?
In order to be fair and consistent in granting fee waivers, the only waivers accepted are those provided by the testing companies documenting that a fee waiver was used to take the ACT or SAT. These are provided by the high school’s counseling office and must be completed in their entirety, including required signatures, in order to be considered official. Considering the fee waiver that we accept, these are applicable only for First-time Freshmen.
What other documents are required to make my file complete?
It is your responsibility to make the contact to get the appropriate documents sent to us. The following links will take you to checklists of requirements to complete your file.
- First-time Freshmen
- Freshmen Transfers (With less than 30 semester credit hours from accredited colleges or universities) will have the same checklist as First-time Freshmen, but will need to include Official transcript(s) from any college(s) from which accredited college-level work was attempted
- Transfers: With more than 30 semester credit hours from accredited colleges or universities:

What if I have been academically dismissed from UTSA?
If you have been dismissed only once from UTSA, you will need to reapply. You will follow the same procedure as for a former student.
If you have been dismissed two or more times, you must reapply as a former student. A $40 application fee is required. A Petition for Reinstatement is also required. You may download the form at http://www.utsa.edu/admissions/forms/
Checking My Status
How can I check the status of my application once it has been processed?
Once there has been sufficient time to establish your student record and process your application, you will have been assigned your user identification number (BANNER ID). This is a nine character student ID starting with the “@” character. You can use this student identification number, along with your 6 digit PIN to access your student records in the Automated Student Access Program (ASAP).
How do I get my user identification (BANNER ID) number?
This number will appear on the initial e-mail sent from UTSA and most additional mail correspondence you will be sent from the Office of Undergraduate Admission. If it has been over a week since you applied, you can also call the call center at (210) 458-8000 or toll-free at 1-800-669-0919 or e-mail us at admissions@utsa.edu.
