Schedule of Events
• Best Fest – An on campus festival produced by the Campus Activities Board (CAB) to generate revenue for registered student organizations. SAA manages a food booth at the festival. (Fall)
•
Birdfeeders –
Birdfeeders brings together UTSA students and alumni who
volunteer to host small, casual dinner parties for students
with the same or similar academic field of study or career
interests. Students learn about their academic and career
paths, network, and develop life-long career connections and
friendships.
• Careers In... – A specific career field is chosen by SAA and alumni are asked to be panelists and speak briefly on his/her area of work within that field. Example: Criminal Justice is the topic. Panelists would include, lawyers, police officers, judges, etc. (More details on this program, click here.)
• Care Packages – Parents of students residing on-campus are solicited by mail to purchase care packages for their students at the end of each semester before finals. However, anyone can purchase a care package online at the Alumni Store. There are some care packages that are offered year around, such as Get Well and Happy Birthday. Specialty packages will be offered for Valentine’s Day, Homecoming, Spring Break, Graduation, Birthdays and Get Well. (Once a semester)
• District Conference – Students travel to universities within our district to participate in a 2 day conference. Conference topics include recruiting and retaining members, fundraising ideas and leadership skills. Participating schools in the district include, University of Houston, the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Tech. (Spring)
• Faculty Teaching Award – SAA sponsors two awards presented at the University Life Awards ceremony, one tenure/tenure-track and one for non-tenure faculty members. Along with a beautiful memento, the winners receive a $500 cash prize
• Student Leader Appreciation – SAA will present tokens of goodwill to other student leaders whose “offices” are housed out of the Student Organization Complex, in appreciation for all they do for campus life. (Once a semester)
• Fight Song Promotion – SAA will hold promotions at basketball games to encourage the student body to start learning the words to our fight song, “Go, Roadrunners, Go!” (Spring)

• Flower Sale – A fundraising event which roses are sold after commencement ceremonies to the family and friends of graduates. (Once a semester)
• Golf Cart Parade – A UTSA Homecoming tradition, student organizations decorate golf carts to show their school spirit and parade them around campus. (Spring)
• Mr. and Ms. UTSA Contest – The Mr. and Ms. UTSA contest is held during Homecoming to recognize those students who embody the spirit of UTSA. SAA is involved of the promotion and presentation ceremony of the winners. (Spring)
• Roadrunner Camp – Roadrunner Camp is an overnight camp for incoming freshman. SAA sponsors the
candle lighting ceremony and dance. SAA students travel to the campgrounds to manage the
candle lighting ceremony, decorate the sight of the dance and provide refreshments to the campers. (Summer)
• Sombreros under the Sombrilla – Students participate in this sombrero decorating contest to show their school spirit during homecoming. (Spring)
• Spring Awards Banquet – SAA students award outstanding members within the organization, as well as, recognize the outgoing and incoming officers, and graduating seniors. (Spring)
• “Where’s Rowdy?” – Students enter in teams up to 5, to participate in a scavenger hunt in search of Rowdy. Winners receive a grand prize of $100. (Spring) |
