Reader/Graders assist faculty in a variety of ways in the instruction of undergraduate courses with high enrollment. Tasks normally include documenting student attendance, processing of exams, making copies, collecting student work, and others as required by the faculty instructor towards the successful administration of the course.
Teaching Assistants are auxiliary members of the instructional staff at UTSA and are employed in that capacity to meet instructional needs of the university at the undergraduate level. The primary duty of a teaching assistant is to provide instructional service under the supervision and direction of designated regular faculty. Students must be enrolled in at least six hours for each long session or a total of three hours during a summer session. Teaching Assistant I positions are for Masters students in the area for which he or she is employed and who hold a Bachelor's degree appropriate to that area. These persons may support teaching through supervising studios or conducting discussion sections. Teaching Assistant II positions are for graduate students with at least 18 hours toward a Master's degree. These persons may teach selected lower or upper-division classes or supervise studios and other classes with proper guidance and supervision of a faculty member to ensure quality instruction. TA II positions are typically assigned and awarded only by the Department Chair.
Graduate Research Assistants assist faculty members or research staff on assigned research projects. The faculty carrying out the funded research, are typically responsible for awarding and administering these assistantships. Students must be enrolled in at least nine hours for each long session or a total of six hours during a summer session.
Graduate Assistants assist with faculty or administration on assigned projects not directly related to research.
