CONFERENCE KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

CHRIS LUEBKEMAN, Arup

Chris Luebkeman Chris Luebkeman is a Director and leader of Arup’s global Foresight and Innovation initiative. Educated as a geologist, structural engineer, and architect, Chris has a background in research. Before joining Arup, he studied in Switzerland and went on to become a faculty member of the Departments of Architecture at the University of Oregon, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Since joining the firm he has facilitated the creation of an eCommerce strategy, initiated research projects on the ‘designer’s desktop of the future’, and encouraged thinking about the evolution of the firm's skills networks into a knowledge network. Chris is currently working with some of the world’s largest companies to develop scenarios to better understand the opportunities that change is creating for them in the built environment.

He is a member of the firm’s Design and Technical Executive which promotes the highest standards of design and technical skill to ensure that Arup is one of the world's leading practitioners in its chosen field.
   
JOHN McRAE, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Dean John McRae John McRae, FAIA, is the Dean of the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. McRae earned his Master of Architecture from Rice University and his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. McRae, a registered architect, taught at the University of Florida for 20 years, serving as acting chair/chair of the Department of Architecture and assistant/associate dean of the College of Architecture. In his professional experience, McRae maintained his own practice and also worked with several firms in Gainesville on a range of residential and commercial projects. He has participated in numerous grants, addresses, workshops and panel presentations on a range of research topics including gerontology, K-12 environmental education, architectural education and professional corporate education. Subsequent to his role at the University of Florida McRae served as Dean of the School of Architecture at Mississippi State, a Vice President at RTKL Associates and as Director of Research, American Institute of Architects. His service to the profession has included a number of roles including President, ACSA.

ARCC NEW RESEARCHER AWARD PRESENTATION

LYNNE DEARBORN, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Lynne Dearborn Lynne M. Dearborn is an assistant professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Illinois where she teaches design and theory courses focused on cultural change and social justice in relation to human settlement patterns. Her research interests include the residential choices of marginalized populations, the built environment and social (in)justice, residential environments of immigrant and minority populations, and healthy, sustainable residential environments.   

In 2004, Professor Dearborn and her co-instructors were awarded the National Education Honors Award from the American Institute of Architects. Through ESLARP, Professor Dearborn has conducted investigations of predatory lending and mortgage fraud in the East St. Louis area and has worked with homeless shelter providers. Professor Dearborn received her professional Bachelor of Architecture degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a licensed architect. She received her Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2004. .
