Accreditation

Both the Master of Architecture and Interior Design programs at UTSA are fully accredited with the appropriate organizations. For the Master of Architecture it is the National Architectural Accreditation Board (NAAB). For Interior Design it is the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). The Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and Management program, which is going to begin in fall 2008, is on track to seek accreditation from the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE).

Master of Architecture Accreditation

The Master of Architecture professional program at UTSA is fully accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board (NAAB) and is requisite for those who intend to become licensed architects. According to the NAAB 1998 Conditions and Procedures manual:

“In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite of licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture, recognizes two types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture and the Master of Architecture. A program may be granted a six-year, three-year, or two-year term of accreditation, depending on its degree of conformance with established educational standards. Master’s degree programs may consist of a pre-professional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree, which, when earned sequentially, comprise an accredited professional education. However, the pre-professional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree.”

Interior Design Program Accreditation

The four-year professional Bachelor of Science in Interior Design degree is fully accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA – formerly FIDER). Graduation from an accredited program is a requirement for registration or license to become a practicing professional in most states.
