UTSA hosts free April 22 concert by Canary Islands guitaristThe UTSA Department of Music presents a free concert by guitarist Benito Cabrera at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 22 in the Arts Building Recital Hall at the 1604 Campus. Cabrera is a composer, arranger and player of the timple, a folk guitar of the Canary Islands. He will perform with his band and the Agrupacion Folklorica Universitaria, a Canary Islands folkloric dance group. Staff Excellence Awards nomination due Friday, April 23It's time for UTSA supervisors and staff members to submit nominations for the UTSA Staff Excellence Awards. The nomination deadline is 5 p.m. April 23. The awards honor outstanding UTSA staff members who demonstrate emerging leadership, dynamic leadership, teamwork, extraordinary initiative and overall excellence. Fiesta Under the Stars returns to outdoor venueThe Department of Music presents the annual performance of Fiesta Under the Stars at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 23 at Sombrilla Plaza on the 1604 Campus, marking the event's return to an outdoor venue after several years indoors. An official event of Fiesta San Antonio, this years theme is All That Jazz. The evening of fine food and music highlights the talents of UTSA music students and faculty, and raises money for music scholarships and programs. Online publications training sessions set for April 28-29Representatives from the UTSA Office of University Publications and Lopez Printing will offer training sessions April 28-29 for staff and faculty interested in creating their own brochures and posters online. The online service offers an easier and less expensive way for UTSA clients to order brochures and posters. Training is at 9 a.m., April 28 in the Downtown Campus library, Buena Vista Street Building; 9 a.m., April 29 in Business Building Room 3.03.04, 1604 Campus and 2 p.m., April 29 in Business Building Room 3.03.04. Student art exhibit displayed in Arts Building gallery foyerAn exhibit of projects by graduate and undergraduate art students who traveled to Germany during spring break is on display through April 28 in the UTSA Arts Building gallery foyer. The pieces are part of research for ART 6013 Berlin Art and Culture, a course taught by Ron Binks, professor of art and art history. The show includes drawings, paintings, photographs and sculpture created through their study and experience in Berlin.
CAR offers popular summer camps for childrenThe UTSA Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) will once again offer the Legacy program summer camps for children ages 6-11. This year's theme is "Telling the Alamo Story." Campers will participate in mock digs, see living history demonstrations, make period crafts and tour the Alamo. Camps for children ages 6-8 are June 14-18 and July 12-16. Camps for ages 9-11 are June 21-25 and July 21-23. The cost for children of UTSA faculty and staff is $170 (which includes a special $20 discount) and includes supplies, snacks and the 2004 camp T-shirt. Training Post compliance training: ‘We’re back!’Training Post online compliance training has returned! The modules have a new look, content has been updated and another cycle of training begins soon. All benefits-eligible staff and administrators (not faculty) are required to complete a refresher training cycle of 8 modules. Everyone will receive instructions via e-mail or letter when courses are assigned. Refresher training for staff and administrators is required each spring semester; faculty complete refresher training each fall semester. New employees must complete all 13 modules within 30 days of hire. Anyone hired after Nov. 11, 2003 is considered a new employee and must complete the training. Summer work-study request form is availableThe summer work-study request form is now available for departments that wish to request a summer work-study allocation.
