Staff Excellence and Service Awards ceremony is April 28UTSA employees are invited to the Staff Excellence and Service Awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 28, in the University Center Retama Auditorium (2.01.02), 1604 Campus. The ceremony will include retiree recognition, service pin awards for 5-30 years and refreshments. Thirty-three staff members will be honored on their retirements and 219 staff members will receive UT System service awards for the 2004 calendar year. Read profiles of the winners: UTSA Today
UTSA hosts early voting site through May 3The UTSA Student Government Association (SGA) hosts an early-voting site at the Main Building ground floor lobby, 1604 Campus, through May 3. Voting is for the Joint General and Special Election for the City of San Antonio and Northside Independent School District, which includes the City Council and mayor races. Early voting at UTSA is open to all San Antonio registered voters, regardless of the precinct in which they reside. Designation as an early voting site promotes civic awareness in the UTSA community and provides a convenient voting location for UTSA faculty, staff and students. Remember to vote! Faculty Honors Convocation is May 4The UTSA community is invited to the Faculty Honors Convocation at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 4 in the Business Building University Room (2.06.04), 1604 Campus. The ceremony, hosted by President Ricardo Romo and Provost Guy Bailey, honors faculty receiving teaching, research and service awards and includes recognition of retirees. Honors Alliance hosts Havana Nights honors galaThe Honors Alliance hosts the annual Honor Gala from 6 to 11 p.m., Friday, April 29, in the University Center Laurel Room (2.01.28). With the theme "Havana Nights," the gala celebrates UTSA honor societies and student-selected faculty and staff. The dinner, salsa dancing and music by Grupo Fantasma are $10 for guests and free for honorees. Dress is cocktail attire. RSVP by e-mail to honorsalliance@utsa.edu. More information: 458-4155
UTSA community invited to Liu Auditorium dedication May 5President Ricardo Romo invites the UTSA community to a ceremony honoring Richard S. Liu, international businessman and philanthropist, at the dedication of the Richard S. Liu Auditorium at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 5 in Business Building Room 2.01.02 on the 1604 Campus. A reception follows the ceremony. Parking is available in lot 4, the first lot to the left after entering campus on John Peace Boulevard.
UTSA pays homage to Miguel de CervantesThe UTSA community is invited to a day of multi-lingual reading of Miguel de Cervantes' masterpiece, "Don Quixote," from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, April 29 in Frio Street Building Room 2.534, Downtown Campus. The event is sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. A piano concert of Spanish music by Felipe Ramirez and a dramatized reading of a brief play written by Cervantes will follow the reading. UTSA hosts Rowdystock music festival April 30The UTSA community is invited to Rowdystock, a UTSA version of the 1969 music festival, from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday, April 30 at the Convocation Center east lawn, 1604 Campus. The free event is a diverse music festival featuring 12 of the best bands UTSA has to offer as well as Tejana recording artist Elida and special guest Jake Owen. Enjoy sidewalk art by MissMonster.com, temporary tattoo painting, food and beverages, volleyball and basketball. Also, the UTSA Police Department will sponsor a Drunk Driving booth to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving. Dell recalls, replaces some AC adaptorsDell Computer is recalling and replacing certain AC adapters because of the possibility of overheating, fire or electrical shock. The adaptors were sold with the following models of Dell notebook computer models: Latitude -- CP, CPi, CPiA, CPtC, CPiR, CPxH, CPtV, CS, CSx, CPxJ, CPtS, C500, C510, C810, V700, C-Dock, C-Port; Inspiron -- 2500, 2600, 3500, 3700, 3800, 4000, 4100, 4150, 5000, 5000e, 7500, 7550, 8000, 8100, advanced port replicator, docking station; and Precision -- M40. If you have a Dell with one of these model numbers or have replaced your adaptor between September 1998 and February 2002, call the Help Desk at 458-5538. Volunteers needed for late-night student breakfastVolunteers are needed for the Cinco de Mayo Late Night Breakfast from 9:45 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Thursday, May 5 in the University Center dining hall. The event, hosted by the Chartwells and the UTSA offices of Housing and Residence Life and Student Activities, celebrates the end of the semester and shows support for students as they study for finals. (The event is 10 p.m.-midnight.) Faculty, staff, alumni and friends are needed as cooks, servers, greeters and to clean up after the event. Volunteers can work for a portion or all of the event. Access Control can identify mystery keysDo you have keys that you don't know what they fit, or you found a mystery key in the back of your desk drawer? Take those keys to Access Control in Multidisciplinary Studies Building Room 1.01.14B, and they can tell you where they fit or if the key is obsolete. UTSA women’s basketball hosts summer campsUTSA women's basketball will host summer camps. The Individual Camp, June 13-16, is open to grades 2-9. Shooting Camp, June 20-21, is open to grades 7-12.
