Faculty Research Awards apps accepted through Oct. 24The deadline to submit applications for the UTSA Faculty Research Awards is 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24. The program promotes UTSA research and scholarships of the highest quality. The competition is open to full-time, tenure-track faculty, regardless of rank. Applications from assistant professors will be considered separately from those submitted by associate and full professors. The Faculty Research Awards Committee will review, evaluate and recommend funding of the research proposals. Funding is limited to $5,000 per project. Proposals must include a budget justification. Employees can take paid time off for votingEmployees are encouraged to take advantage of early, extended-hour voting opportunities to avoid long lines on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 7. Early voting runs Monday, Oct. 23 through Friday, Nov. 3. When it is not possible for an employee to vote before or after normal working hours, supervisors will grant employees a reasonable period of time off for voting during business hours. Employees must be registered voters in order to qualify for the time off. Time off for voting must be requested in advance and approved by the supervisor. Employees granted time off must list the absence on their time sheets. No reduction in vacation allowance or salary will be made for the time taken to vote if supervisory approval is obtained. Come to Faculty and Staff Week at the RecCampus Recreation invites faculty and staff members to stop by the Recreation Center, 1604 Campus, from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30 to Friday, Nov. 3 to learn about the center’s services. There will be chair massages, fitness assessments, nutrition workshops, basketball and many other activities during the open house. Events are free, and membership is not required for the week’s activities. For admission, just present your UTSACard at the welcome desk. Participants can use the daily coin lockers for 25 cents and the shower facilities at no charge. Visit the Recreation Center Web site for a complete listing of events. Buy faculty-staff athletics season passes nowMore than 300 UTSA faculty and staff members have taken advantage of the 2006-07 Faculty and Staff All-Sport Season Pass special. For only $60, the season pass provides one reserved seat at all home games of men and women's basketball in the Convocation Center. Season pass holders also receive free admission to all other regular season, on-campus athletics events. For an additional $40, you can purchase All-Sport passes for family members. The home basketball season begins in less than three weeks, so now is the time to place your order. UTSA Library asks patrons to complete surveyAs plans are made for the future of the UTSA Library, it is important to understand users’ perceptions and expectations in order to provide needed services. Through Nov. 17, the UTSA Library asks library patrons to take a survey to assess services.
