Retirement reception in honor of Patti Cutler is Jan. 25Patti Cutler, assistant vice president for budgets and financial planning, will retire Jan. 31, after 22 years of service to Texas public higher education. A reception honoring her service is 2-4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25 in the Business Building University Room (2.06.04). The reception is open to the UTSA community and friends. "We are grateful for Patti's dedicated service to UTSA and the state of Texas and we wish her well in her retirement," said Kerry Kennedy, UTSA vice president for business affairs. "Patti and her husband, Brad, plan to travel around the country in their new RV, and we know they will have many pleasant journeys." Cutler came to UTSA in 1992 as budget manager, was promoted to director in 1996 and was named assistant vice president in 2000.
Gage Paine named vice president for student affairsUTSA officials announced Jan. 10 the selection of Gage Paine as vice president for student affairs. Currently a vice president at Trinity University, Paine begins her UTSA duties Feb. 1. President Ricardo Romo selected Paine after a nationwide search netted more than 100 candidates. She currently serves as vice president for student affairs at Trinity University. Previously, she was associate vice president for student affairs and dean of student life at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and associate dean of students at UT Austin. Spring semester brings parking changes, new traffic signal at 1604 CampusWith expansion of the University Center and construction of the new parking garage/thermal energy plant, approximately 200 faculty, staff and disabled spaces in lot 9 (south of the University Center) were moved to lots 5 and 6, southeast of the Convocation Center and adjacent to the Science and Biosciences buildings. Lot 9 closes Jan. 13 for construction of the University Center expansion. To accommodate people with disabilities, wheelchair-accessible golf cart shuttles will operate 7 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays between lot 5, the University Center and the Multidisciplinary Studies Building. Additionally, drivers on UTSA Boulevard should be alert to a new traffic signal installed recently by the City of San Antonio. Approaching campus from Interstate 10 on UTSA Boulevard, the new traffic light is past Valero Way and at the first UTSA entrance. The light is at James Bauerle Avenue at the entrance to lot 8. Previously, the only UTSA traffic signal on the 1604 Campus south side was at Edward Ximenes Avenue. Use caution at the intersection as drivers become accustomed to the change in traffic patterns. New Sombrilla Online magazine features video podcastThe latest issue of Sombrilla Online, the Internet version of UTSA's award-winning magazine, is now available for viewing and download. Debuting in this issue is a video podcast, this one featuring an interview with College of Business alumni Josh Dayton and Daniel Eisenhauer, who last year opened their North Side restaurant, El Siete Mares, with fellow alumnus Alejandro Villanueva. The podcast is available to download for iPod or cell phone, or to view online. Read more at UTSA Today.
Send ideas for redesigning the UTSA home pageA redesign of the UTSA home page and secondary pages is underway. Scheduled for launch in spring 2007, the design effort will result in a site that is easier to use and has more information. To kick off the project, an online survey was created for input on perceptions of the current UTSA Web site from the UTSA community, alumni and friends. Read more at UTSA Today.
