Retirement reception in honor of Patti Cutler is Jan. 25

Patti Cutler, assistant vice president for budgets and financial planning, will retire Jan. 31, after 22 years of service to Texas public higher education. A reception honoring her service is 2-4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25 in the Business Building University Room (2.06.04). The reception is open to the UTSA community and friends.

"We are grateful for Patti's dedicated service to UTSA and the state of Texas and we wish her well in her retirement," said Kerry Kennedy, UTSA vice president for business affairs. "Patti and her husband, Brad, plan to travel around the country in their new RV, and we know they will have many pleasant journeys."

Cutler came to UTSA in 1992 as budget manager, was promoted to director in 1996 and was named assistant vice president in 2000.

 

Volunteers are needed for ITC's Asian Festival

Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of capacities at the Asian Festival, Saturday, Feb. 10, at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures. Volunteers work in areas such as merchandise sales, event set-up, ticket sales, greeters, trash pick-up, decorating, hospitality, event breakdown and food and beverage sales. Additionally, volunteers receive two passes to the event. Download a volunteer application.

Leopoldo Cervantes named assistant vice president for facilities

Leopoldo Cervantes was named UTSA assistant vice president for facilities; his UTSA duties begin Feb. 19. Cervantes most recently served as city engineer for the City of San Antonio, where he was responsible for more than $600 million in construction projects. He earned a B.S. degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University and an M.B.A. from University of the Incarnate Word.

 

Joe Rubio named Downtown Campus facilities director

Joe Rubio was appointed facilities director for the Downtown Campus. Rubio served as the Downtown Campus interim facilities director since March 1, 2006. Bringing more than 20 years of UTSA experience to the position, Rubio is highly regarded throughout the university community.

 

Learning Source compliance training modules are online

Refresher compliance training for UTSA employees is scheduled for February. The compulsory training is through the Web-based system, The Learning Source, which replaces The Training Post. Employees must review six compliance modules and complete the knowledge-review section at the end of each module to receive credit for the training. Employees hired before Feb. 1, 2006, are required to complete refresher training and will be notified via e-mail when their modules are assigned. Reminder notices will be sent before the completion date; supervisors will be notified of training not completed.

Volunteers needed as spring break advisers in Mexico

Advisers are needed for an alternative spring break project in Mexico. Each spring, the Office of Volunteer Services and the student organization VOICES (Volunteer Organization Involving Community Education and Service) offer students an alternative spring break program. This year's break is Monday, March 12-Saturday, March 17 at the Casa de Nazareth Orphanage in Piedras Negras, Mexico. Advisers must be 21 years old, able to speak Spanish and willing to drive a sports utility vehicle. Twelve people will go on the trip including students and advisers. The application deadline is 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1.

Housing office seeks RA recommendations

Recommendations are needed at the student housing office for 50 resident assistant positions for the 2007-2008 year. Appropriate candidates are students with strong academic records, strong interpersonal skills and leadership potential, the ability to work with a diverse student population and willingness to assist students in making the critical transition into university life. RAs receive a monthly stipend and a room. Additional qualifications are:

  • Minimum 24 credit hours by Aug. 1, 2007
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA and good academic standing
  • Full-time student (enrolled in 12 credit hours)
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and concern for all students and ability to relate to and motivate students
  • Positive and proactive interpersonal communication and time management skills
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to helping others and being a great representative for University Housing and UTSA
