Jan Kruse to be honored at Jan. 30 retirement receptionJan Kruse, executive assistant to the provost and vice president for academic affairs, will retire Jan. 31, after 21 years of service to UTSA. A reception honoring her service is 3-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30 in the Biosciences Building Loeffler Room (3.03.02). The reception is open to the UTSA community and friends. "Jan has been a mainstay at UTSA for much of its history and has made many significant contributions," said Rosalie Ambrosino, UTSA provost and vice president for academic affairs. "She has been instrumental to me -- I don't know how I will survive without her -- and I know that Dwight Henderson and Guy Bailey would agree wholeheartedly. We wish Jan the very best as she embarks on this new path." Guy Bailey is the former provost with whom Kruse worked for six years. He now is chancellor of the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Dwight Henderson is a retired UTSA faculty member who served for many years as dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, interim dean for the College of Engineering and more recently as director of the Freshman Initiatives Program.Kruse joined the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences in 1986 (now the College of Education and Human Development, College of Public Policy and College of Liberal and Fine Arts). After a series of promotions, she began in her current position in 2000. In retirement, her first order of business will be to visit her daughters in Las Vegas, then take a summer vacation in Florida with her entire family, including five grandchildren.
'Great Conversation!' benefit event is Feb. 27The UTSA community is invited to the seventh annual "Great Conversation!" at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27 at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures. Tickets are $85. Benefiting the UTSA Honors College, the evening is arranged like a dinner party with conversation on more than 60 diverse and stimulating topics. Tables seat 10 with a topic and conversation leader assigned to each. Leaders are faculty members and community leaders with special expertise. UTSA hosts Feb. 2 healthy-heart luncheon, health fairAs part of a national heart health campaign, the UTSA community is invited to the "Go Red for Women" luncheon and health fair on National Go Red Day, Feb. 2. UTSA faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear red to recognize heart health month and the need to educate women on their greatest heart risk. The free luncheon is noon-1 p.m., Feb. 2 in the University Center Laurel Room (2.01.28) on the 1604 Campus. There will be free box lunches, speakers, entertainment and door prizes. A voluntary $5 donation will be collected to benefit the American Heart Association. To register, contact Kathy Ceresoli at 458-6428. The Heart Healthy Health Fair, open to the UTSA community, is 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Feb. 2 in the University Center Mesquite Room (2.01.24) and Laurel Room (2.01.28). Community agencies will provide free health information, massages and screenings such as glucose (fasting preferred), blood pressure, cholesterol, body fat, foot and spinal. Information will be available on topics such as heart disease, nutrition and exercise.
