Enter homecoming best dressed door contestCatch the spirit and enter the UTSA Homecoming 2007 Best Dressed Door and Office Contest sponsored by the Campus Activities Board. Decorate your doors or department offices as part of the homecoming festivities. This year's theme is "It's a Bobcat BBQ!" Prizes will be awarded for the most UTSA spirit, most creativity and best use of the theme. Decorating began Wednesday, Feb. 7 and must be completed by 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12. The entry registration deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 9. Pick up an entry form in the Office of Student Activities, University Center Room 1.02.08, 1604 Campus, and Durango Building Room 1.302, Downtown Campus, or call 458-4728 to order a form by e-mail. Judges needed for Feb. 10 science fair at UTSAJudges in the physical, health and biological sciences categories are needed for the Junior Academy of Sciences competition Saturday, Feb. 10 at the UTSA 1604 Campus. The event is sponsored by the Alamo Regional Academy of Science and Engineering. The event is coordinated by Stuart Birnbaum, UTSA associate professor of earth and environmental sciences and executive director of the ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair, and Beth Garrett Nehr, events manager. Institute of Texan Cultures hosts Asian Festival, Feb. 10UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures will showcase a myriad of Asian cultures at the 20th annual Asian Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10. Admission is free for UTSA students, faculty and staff with UTSACard and children under age 3; $7 for adults; $4 for seniors, military with ID and children ages 3-12. From India and Pakistan, to China, Japan and the Pacific islands, experience the diverse traditions of the San Antonio Asian community in a day of family fun and cultural good will. Exhibitors will present foods, crafts, games, martial arts, dances and stories from cultures including Balinese, Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Hawaiian/Polynesian, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Lao, Okinawan, Pakistani, Taiwanese, Thai, Vietnamese and more. Apply for UTSA Staff Council ScholarshipsThe UTSA Staff Council announces the continuation of the Staff Council Scholarships. Benefits-eligible classified and administrative and professional employees are encouraged to apply. Scholarships of $250 will be awarded for fall 2007 to one undergraduate and one graduate student. Staff Council members raised scholarship funds by selling bottled water at the UTSA commencement ceremonies in May and December to ensure the continuation of the scholarships. Applicants must complete the 2007-2008 UTSA General Scholarship Application and submit a one-page, typed biographical essay describing obstacles or challenges faced in obtaining a higher education degree. UTSA launches civic participation programUTSA launched its component of the UT Service and Civic Participation Program, as part of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. The program is a way for individual volunteer efforts to be recognized, along with the collective community impact of UTSA and the UT System. Adults logging 100, 250 and 500 hours of volunteer service in a 12-month period will be eligible for bronze, silver and gold award levels with lapel pins and personalized letters of thanks from the president. President Ricardo Romo encourages UTSA students, faculty and staff to register their service hours at the UT System President's Service Awards Web site.
