Judges needed for April 6 science and engineering fairVolunteer judges are needed to judge poster presentations in the 2007 ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair (EMTSEF) on April 6 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Judges also are invited to attend the April 7 awards ceremony. Texas middle- and high-school students participate in the fair with math and science projects. Judges in the high-school division must have a master's or doctoral degree. For judging in the middle-school division, a bachelor's degree is recommended. Online training will prepare judges for the event. Because of an anticipated 1,500 contestants, 450 judges are needed. For details, visit the EMTSEF Web site. UTSA Data Council develops data request policyThe UTSA Data Council developed and recommended a policy to ensure that requests for UTSA data are accurate and consistent. Gerry Dizinno, associate vice provost for institutional research, chairs the committee and the policy recently was approved by the President's Committee on Management and Operations (CMO). Purchasing at UTSA will be easier April 2Effective April 2, the purchasing authorization level for approved departmental buyers will increase from $2,500 to $5,000. Department buyers can create a PBO or go directly to a vendor that accepts the UTSA ProCard to purchase non-restricted goods and services. In addition to the increase in purchasing authorization level, more goods and services will be available using the ProCard.

Shred paper and recycle boxes at April 19 special eventUTSA community members can bring unwanted personal papers and documents for shredding from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 19 at the Central Receiving Warehouse, 1604 Campus. The project will be coordinated by the Department of Purchasing and Distribution Services. DocuGuide will charge $5 per box of paper to be shredded (payable in cash only). Proceeds will be donated to the Battered Women's Shelter. Boxes will be shredded on site (35 pounds or less, paper only, no metal objects). Shredding at the Downtown Campus will be available at a later date. April is Records Retention Month -- a good time to visit the UTSA Records Retention Schedule Web site and determine if it is time to store your department records. Visit the TXClass Web site to register for the next Records Retention training class for an overview of records retention procedures.
