University Excellence Awards nomination deadline is Feb. 29

The deadline to submit nominations for the University Excellence Awards is 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 29.

New deferral option: Turn unused leave into retirement savings

Employees leaving UT System employment can defer their unused annual leave payment into retirement savings if a UTSaver 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP) account is established before leaving employment. You can defer any portion of your unused annual leave payment up to the 457(b) limit. For 2008, the 457(b) limit if you are under age 50 is $15,500. If you are age 50 or older, you can defer up to $20,500.

Federal income tax will not be withheld for the amount you defer to the UTSaver DCP. However, deductions for Social Security and Medicare will be withheld. You must elect this option before you leave UT System employment by completing a Purchase Agreement for Unused Annual Leave Payment and submitting the form to Human Resources Benefits.

Family Medical Leave Act amended

The federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) recently was amended. New military family leave rights were signed into law Jan. 28. Download a document with the details (pdf document).

Diploma Dash is March 1 at Convocation Center

Walk, jog or race to Diploma Dash 2008, UTSA's annual 5K run and fitness walk, at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 1 at the Convocation Center on the 1604 Campus. Participants have a choice of a certified 5K course and a scenic 1.5 mile course. Registration is $20 in advance, $30 on race day. UTSA students can register before the day of the race for just $10. Proceeds from the event, which doubles as the San Antonio City Championship Race, benefit the Alumni Scholarship Fund, UTSA track athletes, and alumni programs and services.
