Human Resources announces FY 2010 holiday schedule

The UTSA Office of Human Resources announces the fiscal year 2010 holiday schedule. The Texas Legislature designated 14 holidays for FY 2010, which runs Sept. 1, 2009, to Aug. 31, 2010. The total number of holidays awarded to state employees fluctuates annually because holidays falling on Saturday or Sunday are not observed. Institutions of higher education can rearrange state holidays and establish their own holidays in order to provide more effective work schedules consistent with the academic calendar.

>> See the holiday schedule and other details at the UTSA Human Resources Web site. (A link to the holiday schedule and other important links are included at the end of each issue of @UTSA.)

Staff Council nominations are due July 7

Nominations are needed to fill UTSA Staff Council positions being vacated because of expiring terms. Nomination forms were distributed to administrative-and-professional and classified benefits-eligible employees in the vice president areas with expiring terms. This year, a description of the electronic nomination process was e-mailed to each eligible person from Staff Council with a link to Survey Monkey to make a nomination selection. Nominations must be electronically submitted by Tuesday, July 7.

Staff Council plays an important role in the university community, so it is important to fill the vacated spots. Employees are encouraged to self-nominate or nominate others within the appropriate VP areas, who they feel would commit to playing an active role in the council and monthly meetings. Once the nomination process is complete, electronic ballots will be distributed to vote for the candidate of choice to represent the VP area within UTSA Staff Council.

Main Campus parking lot 4 to be repaired July 6-Aug. 10

Parking lot 4 on the UTSA Main Campus will be repaired from July 6 to Aug. 10 including resurfacing of several areas, seal coating and restriping. Lot 4 is east of the Business Building and John Peace Library Building and northeast of the Main Building. The project was scheduled for a time with the least campus traffic in order to limit the impact on parking permit holders. See the repair schedule, a map and other details on UTSA Today.

Parking for permit holders is available in parking lot 3 north of the Business Building at Margaret Tobin Avenue and John Peace Boulevard and in other parking lots around campus. You also can upgrade your faculty-staff "A" permit to a garage permit through Aug. 20, 2009, for $57 or your faculty-staff "B" permit for $78.

UTSA telephone services introduces online billing system

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) Telephone Services group is implementing on July 1 a new online telephone billing system -- myTelBill. The new software application, myTelBill, will replace the current paper-based billing procedure and will reduce the use of paper by 3,300 sheets each month. Although myTelBill will be available beginning July 1, paper bills also will be printed so that they can be compared to the online data. Beginning in August, paper bills will no longer be available; all telephone billing information will be available only online through myTelBill.

Telephone Services has identified approximately 200 users who will initially be granted access to myTelBill. More information will be sent via e-mail to those responsible for handling billing. Additionally, a quick-reference guide and training classes will be available. Read details on UTSA Today.
