Mary G. Hernandez Brings More Than 20 Years of Higher Ed Experience to Business Affairs

We are proud to welcome Mary G. Hernandez, MBA, as the new Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs — Administration and Operations, effective August 1.

MaryHernandez-web.jpgAs part of the Executive Team, Mary will manage strategic initiatives and programs in support of the Business Affairs Division and will also assist with the implementation of institutional initiatives. She will play an integral role in creating an operational model for the Division that leverages the expertise, talent and skills of the Business Affairs staff. In her role, Mary will oversee the implementation of the service centers for budget/finance and communications. Her experience in business process redesign is a valuable asset as we move toward an efficient service-focused model. In addition, Mary will assist the Division in becoming a trusted business partner to the rest of the institution.

Mary brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education administration. She joins UTSA from Texas Southmost College where she served as the Chief of Staff and Board Liaison. Prior to that, she worked at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen, Texas, as the Senior Executive Director for Procurement and Travel Services, where she served as the statewide lead for Procurement and Travel Services for 10 campuses and TSTC system administration. She also spent seven years at The University of Texas at Brownsville in various roles in Business Affairs and Purchasing.

Mary earned her Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences and her Master’s in Business Administration degrees from The University of Texas at Brownsville.
