Kerry's Korner ..... Thanks and Congratulations to all of you who participated in the State Employee Charitable Campaign. The overall Business Affairs participation rate was 56.5%, enabling the University to exceed their goal of 50%. The following major divisions deserve special recognition for their participation levels: Human Resources – 96.6%; the AVP for Administration’s areas – 74%; and Facilities – 57.1%! We had 12 individual and smaller departments with 100% participation! I know you all have been generous and I am appreciative and proud of Business Affairs participation in the Campaign. Of interest to all of us, the search for the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will soon begin with an initial meeting of the search committee. The University has contracted with the search firm of Greenwood & Associates, and the firm and Committee will work diligently to identify and interview highly qualified candidates in a timely manner. Additional updates will be forthcoming. Remember our new Celebrating Excellence recognition
program…and take a few minutes to nominate a colleague who has
exemplified excellence in their Creativity, Communication
or abilities to be an effective Change agent. We'll announce the
2006 first quarter recipient(s) in December. |

Among the many awards
that Velma has received are the “Employee of the Month” in 1998, the
“Rewards and Recognition Team Award “ for the 4th quarter
of 2000, and the “Outstanding Service Award” for 1st
quarter of 2003. In her spare time, Velma loves spending quality time with her family, speaking very lovingly of her mother. Spending time with her granddaughter when possible, since she lives in California, is one of her greatest joys. And let’s not forget her plants which she loves taking care of. They are her pride and joy. Velma takes great pride in her work, and plans to continue doing a great job here at UTSA, until she retires. |

HR recommends that all managers have their employees submit their vacation requests starting now to determine departmental coverage for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, to include the skeleton crew days in December. Please refer to the UTSA holiday schedule. As always, all employee requests for leave during the holidays are subject to business needs and management approval. Taking action early can help the department provide needed coverage, minimize disruption and provide employees the opportunity to plan ahead. |
