CLASS OF 2012 - WELCOME TO UTSA!
As a part of your Orientation process you are invited to complete DISCOVER®, a free web-based career assessment program which offers guidance and information to help you make important career and educational decisions. Your ideas about who you are and what you want to become influence your career plans and decisions. The role of the inventories in DISCOVER® is to collect information about you and organize it in a way to assist your career exploration and planning.
Take the career inventories. There are no right or wrong answers. Explore the career areas that DISCOVER® will then suggest for you. Find out more about the majors associated with your interests and what occupations they lead you to. The system offers complete, current databases of occupations, college majors, schools and training institutions, and military occupations. Start narrowing your decision. Just remember that it's a process. Don't expect to finish it in one day or maybe even one week. Take time to think and to talk with a counselor or family member if you can.
Step by Step Instructions after you have logged in:
- Fill out the Personal Information requested and click "Submit".
- Click on "Getting Started" to begin assessment or click on tabs on the menu if you know which section(s) you want to use.
- Select the purple tab, "Inventories", to get started with your career exploration.
- Follow the instructions on the screen and complete each of the three inventories - interests, abilities, and values.
- After each inventory you can explore careers which match your results or wait until you have completed all of them. You can also select your "favorites" from these list so you do not need to search for them again.
- Using the Career Areas in your results, you can also explore your occupations and majors which would be of interest to you by clicking on the "Majors" or "Occupations" tab.

You will receive a Banner ID in your welcome letter. In the User ID box, type 13551-@Your Banner ID. It would look like this 13551-@01010101. Then click "Submit". You will be asked to select a password. (NOTE: first time users do not enter a password.) Be sure to write your password down somewhere.
