Prefreshman Engineering Program
The Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP) is a statewide project founded by Dr. Manuel Berriozábal in 1979. Through the curriculum, middle and high school students are introduced to academic activities in science and engineering in preparation for following related studies throughout their education. The program at UTSA, under the direction of Rudy A. Reyna, Ph.D., encourages underrepresented population groups in those career fields.
In 2011, PREP enrolled 1,344 students. More than half were female, and 71 percent were members of minority groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.
