FAST Application


The information provided below details the requirements for participation in the UTSA FAST Scholarship Program.


  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Major in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology & Immunology, or Physics
  • Classified as economically disadvantaged according to the Department of Education rules for need-based federal financial aid


Competitive applicants will have the following attributes:

  • GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • SAT score of 1150 or higher
  • Advanced Placement (AP) coursework
  • One-page career goals statement
  • Interest in participating in the scientific workforce or doctoral studies after baccalaureate degree completion
  • Prior participation in San Antonio PREP is strongly encouraged but not required

Continuance Requirements

  • Make good progress toward completing undergraduate degree in four years
  • Maintain a 3.3 GPA in both science and non-science coursework
    • Scholars whose GPA falls between 3.3 and 3.0 will be counseled in the first instance, placed on probation in the second, and removed from the program on the third
    • Scholars whose GPA for the most recent semester falls below 3.0 will be placed on probation in the first instance and removed from the program on the second
    • Scholars whose GPA falls below 2.75 in any semester will be removed from the program
    • Scholars may be reinstated when their GPA in science and non-science coursework are both above 3.3
