I-Discover Application


 

The information provided below details the requirements for participation in the UTSA I-Discover Program.

Requirements
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Classified as economically disadvantaged according to the Department of Education rules for need-based federal financial aid
Application

To apply to the I-Discover Program, complete the application form and send it to: george.negrete@utsa.edu.

Competitive applicants will have the following attributes:

  • Major:
    » Undergraduate - Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Physics
    » Graduate - Chemistry
  • GPA
    » Undergraduate - 3.0 or higher
    » Graduate - 3.3 or higher
  • Statement of career goals (one page or less)
  • Interest in joining USDA or other government agency as a career objective
  • First generation university students are especially encouraged to apply
Continuance Requirements

Undergraduate Scholars

  • Make good progress toward completing the undergraduate degree
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA in both science and non-science coursework
    • Scholars whose GPA falls below 3.0 will be counseled in the first instance, placed on probation in the second, and removed from the program on the third
    • Scholars whose GPA falls below 2.75 in any semester will be removed from the program
    • Scholars may be reinstated when their GPA in science and non-science coursework are both above 3.0

MS Graduate Scholars

  • Make good progress toward completing the graduate degree
  • Maintain a 3.3 GPA in both science and non-science coursework
    • Scholars whose GPA falls between 3.3 and 3.0 will be counseled in the first instance, placed on probation in the second, and removed from the program on the third
    • Scholars whose GPA for the most recent semester falls below 3.0 will be placed on probation in the first instance and removed from the program on the second
    • Scholars whose GPA falls below 2.75 in any semester will be removed from the program
    • Scholars may be reinstated when their GPA in science and non-science coursework are both above 3.3
