One of the most meaningful gifts
a donor can make to The University of Texas at San Antonio is one that
supports student scholarships, which reward academically deserving students
and help them reach their educational goals.
ANNUAL scholarships
are typically short-term commitments by the donor -- usually for an
academic year, with the full amount of the scholarship awarded each
year. The minimum funding level for establishing a named annual scholarship
is $1,500, with gifts under that amount added to the University General
Scholarship Fund or to the general scholarship fund of a designated
program (see Various Donors below). Because of the tremendous growth
of the University, the need for more annual scholarships increases each
year.
ENDOWED scholarships
are the most enduring gifts a donor can give the students of UTSA since
the awards will continue in perpetuity. The initial gift, forming the
principal, or corpus, of the endowment, is deposited into an account
in the Long Term Fund of UTIMCO
(The University of Texas Investment Management Company). The income
generated annually from the endowment is used both to fund the scholarship
and to increase the initial gift. The minimum gift amount to establish
an endowed scholarship is $10,000, which may be made as a single gift
or paid out within five years of the pledge.
VARIOUS DONOR
scholarships may be appropriate for donors who still want to provide
scholarship assistance to students but who are not yet ready to commit
the minimum amount of funding required to establish a named scholarship.
Gifts of less than $1,500 may be added to the University General Scholarship
Fund or designated for use in any one of UTSA’s academic colleges, Athletics,
or by the Alumni Programs Office for its scholarship program and are
combined with contributions from other donors to give scholarship support
to deserving students.
