Disability Statements for University Publications

Accommodation Taglines for University Publications and Programs

To help ensure inclusion and access in all programs, courses, and events for individuals with disabilities at UTSA, the following taglines are recommended for placement on all University publications, program announcements, brochures, flyers and syllabi.

The "Host Department" is defined as the individual UTSA department(s) sponsoring an event, NOT Student Disability Services (SDS). The person's primary contact should be with the host department. The host department may certainly request consultation with the SDS for any disability related issues or accommodations. Please contact our office if you have any questions about accommodation requests at your events.

Publications shall include the following statement or its equivalent:

Registration materials and program announcements, which include bulletins, flyers, brochures, letters, public service announcements, or other materials used to inform the public of the event or program should include the following statement:

If you need an accommodation for a disability in order to fully access and/or participate in this program/event, please contact (name, host department) at (phone number/voice). Please allow at least (name the desired number of business days) to arrange the accommodation.

This document is available in alternative formats upon request by contacting (name, host department) at (phone number).

NOTE: A program may designate a date by which it would like to receive accommodation requests. However, a program may not refuse to provide an accommodation because the request was not made by the designated deadline. The program must be able to demonstrate a “good faith effort” to provide the accommodation on a case by case basis.

If an event includes a meal, the registration materials should include the following statement:

If you have special dietary needs, please contact (name, host department) at (phone number/voice).

NOTE: In lieu of the phone number, a section may be created on the registration form that allows an individual to designate special dietary needs.

A syllabus for a course might include the following statement:

Students with Disabilities:The University of Texas at San Antonio in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act provides “reasonable accommodations” to students with disabilities. Only those students who have officially registered with Student Disability Services, requested accommodations, and provided an official accommodation letter of notification for this course will be eligible for disability accommodations. Instructors at UTSA must be provided an official notification of accommodation through Student Disability Services. Information regarding diagnostic criteria and policies for obtaining disability-based academic accommodations can be found at www.utsa.edu/disability/ or by calling Student Disability Services at (210) 458-4157. Accommodations are not retroactive.
