San Antonio Mentoring Summit

The Office of P-20 Initiatives and the San Antonio Mentoring Forum hosted this year’s SAMF Mentoring Summit during National Mentoring Month in January. The Summit provided a professional development opportunity that allows mentoring advocates from across the state to share the best practices in mentoring, their mentoring successes and the latest news in mentoring. Scheduled sessions covered the topics of mentoring youth and college students be successful in their pursuit of a higher education degree.

GEAR UP Programs

Parent Graduation - Our program graduated it’s second cohort of parents from the College and Career Readiness Academy the week of June 17th, 2013. Thirteen (13) parents completed our 6 week program, and we held a ceremony to recognize their hard work and commitment to their children’s education. Over 70 SAISD staff, friends and family members attended the graduation ceremony held at the Aula Canaria Auditorium at the UTSA Downtown Campus.

P-20 Initiatives and San Antonio Mentoring Forum

Fire Chief Charles Hood and Belinda SaldanaP-20 Initiatives and San Antonio Mentoring Forum hosted a Mentoring Summit and the Annual Mentor Recognition Luncheon on January 11, 2013, at the UTSA Downtown Campus. Mentors attending were recognized in support of National Mentoring Month. Fire Chief Charles Hood was among the award winners. Dr. Michael Karcher (UTSA) and Dr. Victor Saenz (UT-Austin) provided compelling presentations as to the importance of mentoring. Over 100 guests attended the luncheon and over 50 attended the summit from across Texas.

 

 

 


 

Inspire U Program

Belinda Saldana and Stephanie Tremblay of Big Brother Big Sisters welcomed new UTSA Inspire U mentors, Edward Ortega and Vicki Weber to the program the first week in April, 2013. UTSA Mentors meet with Edison students once month on the Down Town Campus. The Inspire U program is citywide and the UTSA mentees are preparing to pass to the 10th grade. The students were in 7th grade at Twain Middle school when the program started.

 


 

UTSA Ready

On May 18th, 2013, the UTSA Ready students attended the final Academic Enrichment Seminar for math.
