Registered Behavior
Technician Training



Schedule

The five-week Registered Behavior Techinican (RBT) Training follows a hybrid learning format. Each week, participants will have two hours of face-to-face classroom instruction and eight hours of online instruction. The training begins with a RBT pre-test, modeled after the RBT Competency Assessment, and concludes with a post-test.


Courses meet on five consecutive Saturdays, 9:00am - 11:00am.

  • 2 hours; face-to-face: Orientation to the program; Professional Disciplinary and Ethical Standards; RBT Pre-Test

  • 8 hours; online: Measurement and Assessment


  • 2 hours; face-to-face: Debriefing, Application, and Discussion

  • 8 hours; online: Skill Acquisition Part 1


  • 2 hours; face-to-face: Debriefing, Application, and Discussion

  • 8 hours; online: Skill Acquisition Part 2; Behavior Reduction


  • 2 hours; face-to-face: Debriefing, Application, and Discussion

  • 8 hours; online: Documentation and Reporting; Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice


  • 2 hours; face-to-face: Debriefing, Application, and Discussion; RBT Post-Test


Upon completion of the RBT Training program, participants will demonstrate the ability to:


  1. Implement a variety of data collection procedures;

  2. Describe behavior in observable and measurable terms;

  3. Assist with functional assessment procedures;

  4. Implement a variety of skill acquisition procedures;

  5. Implement a variety of behavior reduction procedures;

  6. Effectively document case notes and communicate with other professionals;

  7. Respond appropriately to feedback and maintain professional conduct.

Additional Requirements

In addition to the 42-hour training program provided through UTSA, RBT applicants must also meet the following eligibility requirements:

 

  • ​Pass an RBT Competency Assessment​ (to be administered by your supervising BACB Certificant)

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or national equivalent

  • Successfully complete a criminal background registry check at the time of application (within 45 days of submitting the application)

  • Pay a $50 application fee (annual renewal fees are $35)​
