About the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building
The new UTSA Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building is one of the largest and most cutting-edge education and research facilities in the state of Texas. Constructed at a cost of $84 million, it was funded through the generosity of The University of Texas Board of Regents, the Texas Legislature and numerous special friends.
The facility houses faculty and student research laboratories that will significantly enhance the learning and teaching environments for both the College of Sciences and the College of Engineering. Featuring a five-story atrium, the 227,000-square-foot building is designed to foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration among various science and engineering programs. It has helped UTSA recruit top-level faculty, including six new faculty members collectively bringing more than $6 million in external research funding to UTSA and San Antonio.
Designed by FKP Architects, Inc., and built by J.T. Vaughn Construction, San Antonio, the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building is truly a milestone in UTSA’s journey to becoming the next premier research university for the state of Texas.
The purpose of the journey is threefold: to improve the health and well-being of our citizenry, to plant the seeds for new commerce and to fuel the engine of the $13 billion health industry in San Antonio.

Come here. Go far.
