FAMILY OF THE YEAR NOMINATION FORM RULES & GUIDELINES

The UTSA Family of the Year essay contest is intended to celebrate the supportive role families play in the lives of students and the University community. Honoring an outstanding family reminds the UTSA community that families are an essential part of the support network for our students. Their dedication and determination help our students achieve their higher education goals. At UTSA “family” can be defined as individuals and group members who support their student. Family members include parents, spouses, partners, siblings, grandparents, cousins, extended relations, and close friends. While most consider support to be financial assistance, UTSA understands that it comes in many other ways to students.

Now is your chance to honor family members, by nominating them for the 2011 UTSA Family of the Year. Submit an essay which specifies why you have a great UTSA family! The winner of the contest will receive:

  1. A $500 award donated by L&M Bookstore
  2. A gift certificate to a San Antonio hotel
  3. A gift basket filled with UTSA apparel and items
  4. Four game tickets to the Family Weekend Roadrunner Football game against South Alabama on Saturday, October 8th
  5. A commemorative plaque presented to you and your family by UTSA President Ricardo Romo and UTSA Parent Council President Mrs. Yvonne Cantu during halftime of the football game
  6. Your Family of the Year essay featured in the 2011-2012 edition of the Family Calendar

All entries must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011. The family chosen as "Family of the Year" will be notified by phone on Wednesday, September 28th. Essays will be judged according to the following criteria:

  1. Evidence of family's support for student's college success.
  2. Evidence of family's enthusiasm for UTSA.
  3. Creativity and grammar. Be sure to spell check and make sure your essay is grammatically correct.

Nomination and Contest Guidelines:

  • All current UTSA students are eligible to nominate their own or any family by submitting an essay.
  • Essays must be electronically submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011.
