1Q FY 2013 - 2014

Financial Affairs recognizes Carol Hollingsworth as its first quarter (FY 2013 - 2014) winner of the Financial Affairs Employee Recognition Program Award.

Carol is being recognized for her outstanding leadership, her commitment to embracing positive change and the top notch customer service that she provides to the entire UTSA community. Among many of Carol's accomplishments in the 31 years with UTSA, she has been a change leader by creating cost saving measures within her department; Carol was instrumental in making the change from the submission of Indirect Cost Proposal-Short Form to the Long Form. This change greatly increased revenue to the university. The revenue recovered for fiscal year of 2012 was $8.8 million.

With all the changes that have taken place through reorganizations, Carol has remained the constant for the faculty and staff members by offering exquisite assistance and guidance. She continues to go the extra mile by developing training sessions for the Vice President of Research management and providing quarterly reports to assist them in monitoring their accounts. Carol works diligently to assist the new Research Service Centers in transition to the new organizational structure.

As a service department, Carol has always stressed the importance of providing excellent customer service to the University community. Her staff has always had Carol as an example of what excellent customer service means. Returning phone calls and responding to e-mails in a timely manner is just one method she employs in ensuring customer service needs are met. Carol would never just tell a faculty or staff member 'no' to a request; Carol offers alternative solutions to help meet their needs.

Carol, your dedication to the entire university community is a testament to the Business Affairs Guiding Principles and the positive difference one person can make.

Carol, thank you very much for everything you have done!

2Q FY 2013 - 2014

Financial Affairs recognizes Angel Garza as its second quarter (FY 2013-2014) award winner for the Financial Affairs Employee recognition award.

Angel exemplifies the Business Affairs' purpose: We Make Success Happen. Angel became aware of potential health, safety or even fire risks due to abandoned property/equipment in hallways, corridors, and loading docks across campus. He initiated a joint project between Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management and Surplus to expedite the removal of these items, thus greatly reducing, if not completely eliminating, those risks.

He performs his role of Floor Captain for the Air Force ROTC Uniform Issue, the Army ROTC Uniform Issue, OIT Data Storage and Surplus flawlessly. Through training and meetings with staff, Angel has successfully ensured that all occupants are aware of the latest changes and requirements. Mr. Garza's supervisor has received many favorable comments from the Building Captain and the Safety Office.

Angel worked closely in coordination with the Facilities Construction Planners and Library Management for the removal of over 500 miscellaneous furniture items in preparation for a $4 million dollar Library renovation. Because of his exceptional communication skills, the project has remained ahead of schedule.

Surplus regularly receives requests from customers to pick up items on a specific day and time to accommodate delivery of new items. Angel works closely to ensure times are met. He is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure customers receive more than what they originally expected. Angel lives by the Business Affairs guiding principle: WE PARTNER to deliver excellent service. Angel delivers consistently high-quality service while working with others toward common goals.

In addition, Angel is an avid supporter of all UTSA sports programs and is currently an active member of the UTSA Alumni Association. His positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed shows he is truly a team player who lives by the Business Affairs brand: Partnering for Successful Solutions.
