Financial Affairs is pleased to recognize Linda Martinez, Administrative Services Officer II, as the winner of the BRAVO award in the 1st quarter of FY 2015.

Linda exemplifies the guiding principal WE Partner to deliver excellent customer service. Linda has been instrumental in assisting the new ASO II learn the processes and functions of Financial Affairs. She is willing to provide assistance, answer questions and share ideas and does so with the utmost caring and respect. She is extremely approachable and responsive. Linda recognizes others’ need for information and takes the initiative to provide information to assist others.

No matter what inquiry she may receive, Linda never regards any question as unimportant. When a mistake is made or something is not known, Linda is very courteous in bringing it to attention while offering her assistance to ensure the process is understood. In doing so, she typifies the guiding principal WE RESPECT and care for each other. She conveys a sense of caring and eagerness to provide assistance wherever needed, and she does so with kindness and patience. She consistently maintains a positive attitude and is willing to assist wherever she can.

As we transition to PeopleSoft Linda embodies the guiding principal WE CREATE positive change. She keeps abreast of changes in business processes, attending training courses in order to become more knowledgeable. Linda also played a critical role in the departmental move to the North Paseo Building. She spent several years in this role. She attended many meetings, inventoried furniture and equipment, and collaborated with the Project Manager and furniture vendors. Linda’s ability to keep track of the many logistical details ensured that our move went smoothly. She was always willing to assist and to do whatever was necessary to ensure a successful transition. Whatever change may come her way, she embraces the change!

Linda’s ability to provide selfless assistance empowers others to better serve the university and the community. In doing so, Linda demonstrates the guiding principal, WE VALUE and empower people. Linda is very open to suggestions and respectful of ideas and the opinions of others. She values the contribution of others.

Linda’s kind, selfless and approachable attitude, coupled with her eagerness to provide assistance whenever needed, epitomize her character. She truly is an excellent example of an employee who represents the Business Affairs Guiding Principles.

Financial Affairs is pleased to recognize Andrea Chavez, Budget Analyst III, as the winner of the BRAVO award in the 2nd quarter of FY 2015.

In an effort to reconcile budgets in PeopleSoft, Andrea provides departments with outstanding customer service. She takes the time to explain to them how to understand budget entries in PeopleSoft. She is very thorough and takes the time to follow-up with email communication to recap the details. She takes the time to provide solutions and goes above and beyond to assist departments with problem resolution. These are some examples in which Andrea characterizes the guiding principal WE PARTNER to deliver excellent customer service

Andrea demonstrates a positive attitude and is professional in her demeanor. She is always polite, and in providing support, encourages staff to try different scenarios with their functions. Her suggestions are made with the utmost respect. She is extremely patient and insightful when explaining budget processes. She approaches challenges with a “can do” attitude. Andrea strives to provide expedient responses. Her professional demeanor is a testament to her strong work ethic, her commitment to UTSA and is also demonstrative of the guiding principal, WE RESPECT and care for each other.

Andrea provides assistance to departments with budget matters in PeopleSoft. The transition to PeopleSoft has not been without challenges; however, Andrea exemplifies the guiding principal WE CREATE positive change. Her positive attitude is appreciated by departments who may not comprehend how to retrieve budget information from PeopleSoft. She expresses genuine concern for issues and recognizes the ultimate goals and needs of the UTSA community. Her emails to recap conversations include screenshots of budget screens with detailed comments, making them easy to understand. Such details in her communication efforts showcase her creativity and work ethic. She strives to ensure customers not only receive their sought answers, but that they also fully understand the process. In doing so, Andrea embodies the guiding principal, WE VALUE and empower people.

Financial Affairs is pleased to announce Wanda Burns, Disbursements and Travel Specialist I as the winner of the 3rd quarter FY 2015 recognition.

Wanda has been in DTS for over eight years. While in her position Wanda has served as a role model for other DTS staff. She exemplifies the guiding principles, WE Partner to deliver excellent customer service and WE VALUE and empower people. Wanda provides exceptional customer service to vendors as well as the community, and in doing so, makes sure they understand DTS processes. She is a reliable team member who offers a helping hand in the absence of others or when the work load increases. Wanda always takes great pride in her work by performing to the best of her abilities, producing quality work that is neat and organized.

Wanda exhibits respect for her coworkers, supervisors, vendors and other campus staff demonstrating the principle WE RESPECT and care for each other. Wanda is respectful and concise in sharing knowledge with campus departments, vendors and colleagues when they reach out to her for assistance. DTS staff know they can rely on Wanda for assistance because she understands the need to step in and assist others when the workload increases. She makes certain that her transactions are always handled with the utmost care and accuracy. She is observant of UTSA guidelines and operates within ethical boundaries

Wanda also demonstrates the guiding principle WE CREATE positive change. Wanda is accepting of challenges that resulted in changes in DTS processes with the implementation of PeopleSoft and made it her goal to champion the opportunity with an attitude of “get the job done”. No obstacle is ever too cumbersome for her to handle or overcome.

4Q BRAVO AWARD FY 2014 - 2015

Financial Affairs is pleased to announce that Min Ren, Senior Accountant II, has won the 4th Quarter FY 2015 recognition.

Min exemplifies the guiding principle, WE PARTNER to deliver excellent customer service. She has been very instrumental in assisting one of our new accountants in Financial Affairs. Min freely shares her knowledge and expertise to ensure excellence in service. She is very knowledgeable with PeopleSoft, and how to perform queries on General Ledger transactions. Min shares this understanding along with creative solutions to very detailed accounting queries. She continually seeks methods to reduce the amount of time it takes to conduct research while improving results. Min also partners with staff by sharing her advanced Excel skills, resulting in the ability to perform tasks more efficiently.

Min is never too busy to provide assistance or share her wealth of knowledge; while giving assistance Min is extremely polite, respectful, and courteous. She provides answers with a soft and gentle manner, and her tone and mannerism is very much appreciated. Month-end can be very demanding of Min’s time; however, it does not keep her from taking the time to answer questions. When a question requires more time than she has available at the moment, Min kindly explains that she is working on a task. She will schedule a time to assess the issue, and Min always follows-up as promised. In doing so, Min personifies the guiding principle, WE RESPECT and care for each other. She is very reliable and dependable.

WE VALUE and empower people is another guiding principle frequently demonstrated by Min. She continually checks in with our new accountant to review Excel spreadsheets and to ask if she needs assistance with PeopleSoft or Excel. Min willingly offers solutions to problems and goes so far as to test solutions to ensure their accuracy. Our new accountant is then equipped with knowledge to identify glitches that might be found in PeopleSoft.

Min’s willingness to share her accounting knowledge as well as PeopleSoft and Excel skills with new staff is appreciated; she goes above and beyond without ever appearing critical while having a smile on her face.
