Hazlewood Process/Timeline

During peak processing times, applications can take up to 4 – 6 weeks to be processed. If your exemption is not applied to your account by the tuition due date, it is advised that you make alternative payment arrangements to prevent cancellation of your registration.

Hazlewood and Financial Aid

The Hazlewood Exemption can be used in conjunction with financial aid (grants, loans, scholarships and work-study). Please note that this exemption must fit within your Cost of Attendance (COA) and your financial need. If financial aid is already disbursed or awarded at the time your Hazlewood exemption is approved, there may be adjustments to your financial aid (grants, loans, scholarships and work-study) to accommodate this exemption.

NEW Academic Requirements for Exemptions

Beginning Fall 2014, the following requirements must be met by certain groups of students receiving exemptions at all public Texas institutions. For Hazlewood, this includes exemption recipients under the Veteran program, the Legacy program and to some students under the Dependent/Spouse program (spouses/children of veterans who were 100% disabled due to active duty).

    • If initially enrolled prior to Fall 1999, there is no maximum number of attempted hours
    • If initially enrolled Fall 1999 – Summer 2006, cannot exceed required hours for your degree by more than 45 hours
    • If initially enrolled Fall 2006 – Present, cannot exceed required hours for your degree by more than 30 hours

These requirements are separate from financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements for financial aid purposes. Legacy students must still maintain all components of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for financial aid in order to receive the Hazlewood Exemption.

For more detailed information and for appeal information, please refer to our Academic Requirements for Exemptions page.
