GE2MS Courses

GEM 1011, GEM 1021, and GEM 1031.  These three, one-hour courses are the first step toward teacher certification for grades 8-12 mathematics or science.  They substitute for IDS 2013.  Field experiences on participating public school campuses are required during each semester.

GEM 1011 Rationale. This course introduces students to the elementary school classroom, exploring the possibility of teaching while observing and teaching.  Students will work in teams with an exemplary elementary teacher at one of the local school districts.  Class activities at UTSA will emphasize the qualities of good mathematics and science teaching including standards-based instruction and the integration of resources into effective class planning.

GEM 1021 Rationale.  UTE 1021 builds on the teaching practices, lesson plan design, and instructional models that were used in UTE 1011, but in a middle school setting.

GEM 1031 Rationale.  UTE 1031 builds on the teaching practices, lesson plan design, and instructional models that were used in prior UTeach courses, but in a high school setting.
