Eric Swanson
Background -
Dr. Swanson has conducted funded research on volcanic
rocks of Mexico’s Sierra Madre Occidental in the states of Durango and
Chihuahua. His research on these areas has been published by the
Geological Society of American, the American Geophysical Institute, the
Instituto de Geologia and in numerous geological guidebooks. He has
recently completed a reconnaissance study of a large area of western
Chihuahua, including Copper Canyon shown in the picture. Dr. Swanson also
enjoys science writing, including publications in science education
journals, science encyclopedia articles, book reviews and GeoTexas, a book
covering Texas Geology and other Earth Science topics. He has just begun
research on the history of geologic fieldwork in the Sierra Madre
Occidental. Dr. Swanson is involved in developing and teaching science
courses at the introductory level, especially those with strong
cross-disciplinary components. He also teaches economic geology and
shares teaching duties in petrology and volcanology.
