TOEFL

International applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency before being admitted to a graduate program.  UTSA recognizes the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as measures of English language proficiency.

A score of 173 on the computer-based TOEFL or 500 on the paper-based TOEFL or 5 on the IELTS is the minimum required of all international applicants. Doctoral programs require higher TOEFL scores; please refer to the program requirements and Graduate Catalog for more information. Applicants must take the TOEFL/IELTS before submitting an application for admission.

International Applicants who have received a high school diploma or a bachelor's or master's degree in the United States need not submit TOEFL/IELTS results.
