REAL SSENSE

SSENSE

What's all the nonsense about? The nonsense is simple. Students come to college thinking college is about alcohol, drugs and partying it up every Thursday through Sunday. Within the first year of college students who didn't previously consume alcohol, use drugs or party as much, end up succumbing to the peer pressure and begin engaging in underage drinking, binge drinking, drinking and driving, illegal drug use, risky sexual activity and leave themselves susceptible to the negative consequences of their risky behaviors.

The SSENSE Social Norming Campaign aims to address the statistics on risky behaviors of UTSA students with the goal of addressing misperceptions that exist about alcohol consumption by UTSA students. This campaign is one of many projects UTSA has developed, conducted or participated in to proactively reduce high-risk alcohol consumption and high-risk behaviors associated with alcohol consumption. This campaign also aims to address alcohol related issues such as underage drinking, binge drinking and sexual activity.

The name SSENSE became the identity of this campaign. SSENSE is unique because of the multiple representations that it possesses. It represents an effort by students to develop a sense of understanding and awareness about alcohol and alcohol related issues and consequences. It also represents a scholastic effort on the part of faculty, staff and administration at UTSA and the community at large to aid our students in developing that sense of understanding and awareness.
