Dear Student,
Like university campuses across the United States, the University of Texas at San Antonio is increasing efforts to educate students about the use and effects of alcohol. Each member of the first-year class is required to complete AlcoholEdu for College - an online, science-based course that is taken by tens of thousands of college students each year. The course provides a detailed education about alcohol and its effects on the body and mind. Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEdu for College will empower you to make well-informed decisions about alcohol and help you better cope with the drinking behavior of your peers.
As you proceed through the four modules of AlcoholEdu for College, you will be presented with content in a variety of formats, including slides, audio/video clips, quiz questions, interactive exercises and journaling activities. In addition, you will take a comprehensive final exam - you must receive a grade of 70% or higher to pass. Because UTSA is concerned about the health of its students, failure to complete the course will result in the placement of a hold on your records and may prevent you from registering for spring 2008 classes.
AlcoholEdu for College also includes pre- and post-assessments at the start of the course and immediately following the final exam. Notification to complete the Course Conclusion (Part II), which is the last portion of AlcoholEdu for College, will be emailed to you approximately 45 days after you complete the final exam. Once you have finished the Course Conclusion, you will have completed your AlcoholEdu for College requirement and will be cleared to register for spring 2008 classes.
UTSA provides other resources to help students deal with choices relating to alcohol use. If you desire additional information about these programs and services, please contact Counseling Services at 210-458-4140 (www. utsa.edu/counsel/) or Student Health Services at 458-4142. Thank you for completing this important course. We wish you a successful experience at UTSA!
Sincerely,
| Dr. Gage E. Paine | Chris Leeth | |||
