UPCOMING EVENT

 

 

National HIV Testing Awareness Day.  Thursday, June 26, 2008.  5:30-8:30 pm between Student Health Services and Campus Recreation. 

 

Free HIV Testing and resource fair with community agencies such as BEAT AIDS, San Antonio AIDS Foundation, Mujeres Unidas, Planned Parenthood, SACADA, COSA, Viral Load Zer0, Counseling Services, Pregnancy Care Center, Prevention Resource Center Region 8, and Project WORTH. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SHAC:  Student Health Advisory Council is a bi-monthly meeting with students interested in changing/improving the health/medical climate at UTSA.  Students provide feedback to director about medical needs on campus and outreach to students about programming and services.

 

NEW! SHO: Student Health Organization  meets every other Monday and will concentrate on breast cancer/testicular cancer campaigns in October, hand washing/flu prevention this fall and a diabetes fair in November.  This student organization attracts pre-med, pre-nursing, health promotion, sociology and other interested students.

SHADES: Sexual Health Alcohol and Drug Education for Students is a grant funded program developed to educate UTSA students on HIV/AIDS, the prevention of STD’s and alcohol/drug abuse.  The SHADES peer educators can discuss these topics in your classroom, student organization or meeting. Special outreach projects will be National Hispanic AIDS Day (October 15), National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week and World AIDS Day.

 

PAID:  Peers Against Impaired Driving is a sanctioned program with Judicial Affairs. Sanctioned students will have a first hand account of the repercussions of alcohol offenses (DWI) and the struggle a student at UTSA has had to succeed with a police record.  Classes are offered twice a month but faculty can also request this speaker.
