ADMINISTRATIVE MEMORANDUM NO. 6.1

SUBJECT:   Handling of Emergencies

Dealing with the Situation

In the event of an emergency, disaster, or crisis on the UTSA campus, the University Chief of Police (Ext. 4242) and the President's Office (Ext. 4101) should be notified immediately. Administrative officers in these offices will be responsible for handling the situation. These offices will also be responsible for gathering the facts pertaining to the situation.

When UTSA students are in need of medical assistance, please notify the Student Health Service located in the Science Building, Room 1.03.02 (Ext. 4142 during business hours; after business hours, contact the Coordinator - Student Health Services (680-4880).

Statements to the Press

Representatives of the press always have access to witnesses and are free to gather facts in such a situation. Persons interviewed by the press should avoid speculation, rumors, and hearsay reports, but are, of course, free to respond to questions from the press. Official statements will be issued from the President's Office upon ascertaining the facts in the situation.

Emergency Procedures After Business Hours

A University Police radio dispatcher handles all emergency calls requiring Police or Physical Plant assistance after business hours. The emergency telephone number is ext. 4242 (on campus) or 691-4242 (off campus).

Emergency Involving UTSA Property

The Physical Plant Department (Ext. 4260) should be notified concerning any emergency involving UTSA property. After normal duty hours the University Policy (Ext. 4242) will refer calls to appropriate persons.
