Administration

1.1 Administrative Officers

  1. Chief Administrative Officer

    The Chief Administrative Officer of The University of Texas at San Antonio is the President. The President's duties and responsibilities are set out in Regents' Rules and Regulations, Series 20201, Section 4.

  2. Other Administrative Officers

    The President is assisted by a staff including the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Business Affairs, Vice President for Administration and Planning, Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for University Advancement, and Executive Director of the Institute of Texan Cultures and Vice President for Downtown Operations. The Vice Presidents serve at the discretion of the President and perform such duties as are assigned by the President.

    Vice President for Academic Affairs

    The Vice President for Academic Affairs provides the President with advice and counsel on academic matters, acts as liaison between the President's Office and faculty committees concerned with academic affairs, and has direct responsibility for administering the academic programs of the University. The Vice President for Academic Affairs is the officer responsible for coordination of graduate education and chairs the Council on Graduate Education. The Academic Deans, the Director of Admissions and Registrar, the Director of the Library, the Director of the Hidivic Research Center, and the Director of Instructional Resources report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

    Vice President for Administration and Planning

    The Affirmative Action Officer provides the President with advice and counsel on the general administrative services of the University and acts as liaison between the President's Office and all University standing committees. This officer is responsible for affirmative action, strategic planning, and the Office of Institutional Analysis.

    Vice President for Business Affairs

    The Vice President for Business Affairs provides the President with advice and counsel on fiscal affairs and has direct responsibility for the business operation of the University including operation of the Physical Plant, Computing Resources, University Police, General Services, and the Business Manager's office. This officer is also responsible for budget preparation and analysis, contract and grant administration, and personnel administration.

    Vice President for Student Affairs

    The Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for overseeing student affairs and for providing advice to top administrators on all aspects of student activities at The University of Texas at San Antonio. The Special Assistant Vice President, Assistant Vice President for Student Development, Assistant Vice president for Student Services, Assistant Vice President for Student Life, and the Director of Student Financial Aid report to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

    Vice President for University Advancement

    The Vice President for University Advancement is responsible for all areas of advancement, including development, communications and alumni affairs, within the academic colleges and coordination with The University of Texas Institute of Texan Cultures. The Director of Development and Director of University Communications report to the Vice President for University Advancement.

    Vice President for Downtown Operations and Executive Director of the Institute of Texan Cultures

    The Vice President for Downtown Operations and Executive Director of the Institute of Texan Cultures provides administrative and programmatic leadership to fulfill the statewide mission of the Institute of Texan Cultures. This officer is responsible for the operations and functions of the Institute, and is administratively responsible for the public relations and development activities of the Institute in coordination with the Vice President for University Advancement. This officer also stimulates stronger academic linkages between programs of The University of Texas at San Antonio and the Institute of Texan Cultures, assists in the development of plans and coordinates the expanded University operations at HemisFair Park.

    Academic Deans

    The Deans of the several Colleges report directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. They have the authority and responsibility for the operation of their respective Colleges and are expected to provide the leadership necessary to ensure first-class academic programs, both undergraduate and graduate, and high faculty and staff performance.

    Division Directors

    The Directors of the academic Divisions of the Colleges report directly to the Dean of the College. They have the responsibility under the Dean for the operation of their Divisions and are expected to provide leadership in faculty and staff development and academic program development.
