9.17 Computer Security
Increased emphasis on automated retrieval, processing and dissemination of information in administrative and academic systems has enhanced concern for security and confidentiality of the information resources of the University. Such critical operations as the preparation of financial reports and documents, maintenance of student records, and the instructional and research uses of computers must be protected through implementation and enforcement of reasonable standards and, where appropriate, sanctions when procedures or standards are breached.
In recognition of the need to restrict access to sensitive and confidential data, procedures have been developed and monitors have been installed to control and audit the use of the University's information processing and telecommunications equipment. The details of the standards, procedures and sanctions are outlined in Section 8.12 of this Handbook.
